Shift Painting

The Shift Painting was created to bring the Shift approach to leadership and team coaching to life. It was painted by Gaia Orion. We set out to create a website that was truly unique and had a personality of its own.

The process began by telling the story of Shift, why it exists, what its purpose is and how we saw it evolving. Through a series of conversations and sketches this painting was born. It captures the essence of our work and we hope that you will enjoy becoming a part of this community.

A Note From The Artist

The Shift painting was created after talking with Susan Pahl to understand the mission of the company. In the painting I included all the elements and stages involved in the leadership and team coaching.

The four seasons are the thread of the artwork representing the process that Shift and the companies will go through as they work together.

Starting in the autumn which is the season for gathering and preparing - At the bottom left of the painting a team is scattered among the forest looking for directions. One of them sees the Shift team and signals it to the others. We can see the Shift team at the beginning of the road welcoming the new group needing direction.

One of the main issues that companies deal with is that the leader is not communicating clearly with the rest of the team or that the employees do not understand the vision of the leader. We illustrated this scenario by the team skating and playing “crack the whip.” It is winter and hardships are presenting themselves. Challenges that the company is going through are coming up to the surface.

This time of trial is thrusting all parties to come together to create something as a team. A campfire in a maple bush is the gathering place for working it out. Creative energies and ideas are being shared for solving issues. The sap is running. I thought that since Shift is a Canadian born company the maple syrup flowing will make a little Canadian touch, eh?!

Summer is coming. The group is now walking together on the weaving path in one direction. The leader is on top of the hill. She/He sees far ahead and enjoys a beautiful view: a warm sunset with ripe fields ready to be harvested!
